Harvest Week 28 Aug-2 Sept 23
ICFN promoted Inverclyde community gardens with a week of seasonal Harvest events. Each garden held a harvest activity with coverage in the Greenock Telegraph.
The week kicked off with Shore Street garden in Gourock sharing a range of their fresh, organic produce grown in the garden. Belville Community Garden held a fantastic cooking demonstration by regular garden volunteer Nataliya, showing participants how to make Ukrainian Borscht and sampling other national dishes.
Branchton gardening club shared their harvest and volunteer Lorna gave a scything demonstration and talked about her experiences of Transylvanian farming where scything is still a key part of their method.
The Kidron Project at Lyle Gateway, Parklea Branching Out and the Drying Green enjoyed our ICFN garden soup, courgette brownies and made herb tea bags from fresh herbs picked from several of the community gardens. We also demonstrated how to make a herbal salve at the Drying Green using lemon balm from the garden and some foraged plants that are said to have healing benefits.
Blooming Inverkip showcased the beautiful flowers growing in their garden and along with Muirshiel Market garden shared some of their vegetable harvest. Inverclyde Shed also offered vegetables grown at Muirshiel to their volunteers and Shed members.
It was a great week and the sun shone for us all! Thanks to alll who came along to support our garden’s events!
